Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Boise ID
555 AM MDT Sat Apr 25 2026

.UPDATE...Updated aviation discussion.

&&

.KEY MESSAGES...
- Freezing temperatures this morning. Not quite as cold, but
  still areas of frost Sunday and Monday mornings.

- Remaining unsettled into early next week. Temperatures will
  gradually warm toward normal by mid week, then above normal
  late week with drier conditions.

&&

.SHORT TERM /Through Monday Night/...
Issued 324 AM MDT SAT APR 25 2026
A broad upper level trough will remain over the Pacific
Northwest through Monday. This will keep our area cool with
high temperatures around 5 degrees below normal. After
widespread freezing temperatures this morning, low temperatures
Sunday and Monday mornings will dip into the low to mid 30s in
the Snake River Plain, resulting in areas of frost. Most of the
energy associated with the trough will stay to our south and
east, keeping significant precipitation amounts out of our
area. The highest chance (20-50%) of precipitation today and
Sunday will be over the higher terrain each afternoon. Chances
will increase slightly on Monday as the trough axis passes
overhead, bringing a 10-30% chance of showers to the lower
elevations. A 10% chance of thunderstorms will accompany the
stronger showers. Snow levels will range 4000-5500 feet through
the period. Winds will be lighter today, but will be breezy
Sunday and Monday with afternoon gusts 20-30 mph as the system
moves through.

&&

.LONG TERM /Tuesday through Saturday/...
Issued 324 AM MDT SAT APR 25 2026
An upper level trough will slowly exit the region Tuesday and
Wednesday, keeping our area in northwest flow aloft. Thursday
through Saturday, a broad upper level ridge is favored to build
across the Pacific Northwest. However, a low potential for a
trough to move into the region late in the week decreases
forecast confidence. Overall, temperatures are expected to
warm to around normal by Wednesday, then 5-10 degrees above
normal Thursday through Saturday. A 20-50% chance of showers in
the mountains and 10-20% chance in the valleys on Tuesday will
trend lower on Wednesday. By late week, only a 10-20% chance of
showers will remain over the mountains. Winds will be mostly
light through the period with a few afternoon breezes.

&&

.AVIATION /12Z Saturday through Sunday/...
Issued 541 AM MDT SAT APR 25 2026

10% chance of thunderstorms along the OR/NV border. Surface
winds: variable less than 10 kt in the morning, then W-N 5-10 kt
